Vahan Mardirossian began conducting at the age of 15. He was appointed Principal Conductor and Musical Director of the Youth Chamber Orchestra by the Youth Cultural Center of Armenia.
In May 2014, Vahan Mardirossian debuted at the head of Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. Following this concert he was invited to conduct the NHK Symphony Orchestra and the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra in May 2015. During 2014/2015 he performed again with Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Vahan Mardirossian is currently the Principal Conductor of the Caen Orchestra and Musical Director of the Armenian National Chamber Orchestra (NCOA).
He regularly conducts the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, the Prague Radio Symphonic Orchestra, the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre National des Pays de Loire, the "Amalgam" Orchestra (formed by the best performers of the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra and Symphonic Orchestra SWR Baden-Baden-Freiburg), Douai Orchestra, The Czech Soloists, the Lebanon Philarmonic Orchestra, the Caen Orchestra, Orchestre de Cannes, Toulon Opera Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Novosibirsk, the Armenian National Chamber Orchestra (NCOA).
He collaborated with internationally renowned soloists ; namely A.Markov, V.Sverdlov-Ashkenazy, D.Poppen, B.Engerer, X.Phillips, L.Vogt, KW.Paik, R.Galiano, V.Postnikova, D, Kashimoto, S .Nakaryakov, G.Hofmann, A.Chaushian, R.Pidoux, A.Soumm, A.Ghindin, I.Tchetuev, P.Leschenko, A.Wass, JM.Phillips-Varjabedian, Trio Wanderer, F.Mondelchi , JC.Pennetier, J.Rouvier, M.Coppey, R.Arodacky, N.Dautricourt, S.Bechy, G.Touvron, S.-M.Degand, E.Rozanova, R.Daugareil, A.Cazalet ...
His repertoire covers a wide of musical pieces ranging from the Baroque period to the present (Tanguy, Saariaho, Rautavaara, Dutilleux, Rihm, Kagel, Crumb, Ligeti, Mulsant...)
In May 2013, Vahan Mardirossian led the first creation of "Anoush" by the Armanian composer Armen Tigranian, in France, at the opera Théâtre Nanterre-Amandiers. Vahan Mardirossian recorded Tchaikovski’s Violin Concerto (Stephanie Marie Degand, Caen Orchestra) and Florentine Mulsant’s 1st Symphony for Strings (NCOA).
A recognized pianist, Vahan Mardirossian combines his two passions, conducting and playing the keyboard (Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Grieg, Shostakovich...). Vahan Mardirossian has performed under the baton of distinguished conductors; namely Kurt Masur, Paavo Jarvi, Yutaka Sado, Yuri Ahronovith.
Meeting Kurt Masur marked a defining turning point in Mardirossian’s career. The Maestro invited him to a Conducting Seminar in New York, where he conducted the Manhattan School Orchestra. In 2005 Vahan Mardirossian founded the "Maestria" Chamber Orhesra, whose members he performed with, in France at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris and at the Halle aux Grains in Toulouse.
