An artistic mission of high demand

The International Piano Competition -Istanbul Orchestra’ Sion aims to promote internationally recognized professional musicians who have been selected from all over the world. This mission has been prompted by a desire to give artists a place to develop and expand musically, to offer musicians the opportunity to enjoy human and artistic exchanges with the public, and with a jury composed of distinguished international concert performers. The International Piano Competition-Istanbul Orchestra’Sion aims to be regarded as a milestone in the career of young concert performers and at becoming over the years a major musical event in Turkey, in the Mediterranean region and even beyond.

The competition will take place in the concert hall of Notre Dame de Sion High School, located in the centre of Istanbul. The candidates will be selected on examination of DVDs or audiovisual files. The competition will include four public events. During the Finale concert, the candidates will be accompanied by the Orchestra’Sion Orchestra under the baton of conductor and President of the Jury Vahan Mardirossian.

Prizes will be awarded as follows: the winner of the first degree will receive 10.000 dollars, the winner of the second degree will receive a prize of 5000 dollars and the winner of the third degree will receive a prize of 2500 dollars.

The winner of the first degree will be awarded a range of several concert performances including a concert in the annual program of the Notre Dame de Sion High School Concert Hall, a concert at the Théâtre Saint Bonnet (Bourges, France), a concert during the Festival "Orient Liszt" – Lisztomanias 2018 (Chateauroux, France), a concert at Domaine Les Forges de la Vache, part of the "impromptu" cycle (Nièvre , France), participation in a concert at the Vila-seca Music Festival of 2018 (Vila-seca, Spain) and a concert at the Gümüşlük International Classical Music Festival in 2018 (Gümüşlük, Turkey). The winner might be offered the opportunity to give other concerts, which will be regularly updated on the competition website.

Also, the members of the jury will select one candidate who will be awarded a scholarship covering the tuition and accommodation expenses of the one-week masterclasses at the Academy of Cap Ferret Music Festival, as well as the participation to the “Young Talent Festival Concerts” and the video of the concert (Cap Ferret, France).

The winners of the first three degrees might also be awarded one or more other prizes including for example the special Prize of the pupils of Notre Dame de Sion-Istanbul or any other musical award approved by the president of the competition and the members of the jury.

All prizes will be presented at the Gala Recital of the competition.

The International Piano Competition-Istanbul Orchestra’Sion has been a member of the Foundation Alink-Argerich since 2013 and the World Federation of International Music Competitions since 2017. The Organizing Committee of the Competition also relies on the expertise of Franck Ciup, member of the jury of the 2013 competition, consultant in France for the 2015 and 2017 competitions, and President of the pupils’s Jury.
