Çağla : Hello, Gözde. I have a few questions about your job. Where do you work now ?

Gözde : I work at Balıklı Rum Hospital. I work with addiction victimes

Ç : That’s very interesting. We know that you are a Dame de Sion gradute.

G : Yes, I graduated in 2001

Ç : When is your birthday ?

G : My birth date is May 21,1982

Ç : Where did you study pyschology ?

G : After Dame de Sion I went to Paris and I studied Clinical Pyschology at Sorbonne.

Ç : For our newspaper, we prepared an article about bulimia. Is the cause of bulimia just pyschological ?

G : No. There are also pyschological, biological and family reasons, too. Of course it starts with the reason of low self-esteem.

Ç : What kind of people tend to become bulimic more easily ?

G : These who don’t get enough attention froom their families or those whose families apply too much pressure on them.

Ç : What do bulimics do when they understand that they are bulimic.

G : They are usually conceal it. They don’t want to see a pyschologist.

They usually do nothing about it.

Ç : What is the typical age to become bulimic ?

G : Bulimia usually starts at adolesence girls become bulimic at ages 15 through 18.

Ç : Is there a connection between bulimia and adolesence ?

G : Yes. Girls at that age unconciously deny growing up of course when people grow up, their body parts get bigger and larger. In other words, they deny womanhood.

Ç : That’s interesting. Do you think that woman who go through a lot of esthetic operations and bulimics have some things in common ?

G : Yes. Of course both of those groups have pyshological problems with themselves. They are not satisfied with the way they look. The only reason why woman have a lot of esthetic operations is that they never think at they look good.

Ç : How do you cure these patients as a pyschologist ?

G : It is not easy to treat pyschological problems. We, pyschologists, aren’t magicians. I can’t say that there is only one method to help thede people. Because they have a wrong conception of themselves, they need long-term therapy.

Eating Disorders

Fort he past couple of centuries, the media has prometed “being thin” as being beaautiful. Therefore many woman in the world have tried to lose weight in order to look more beautiful. However, some of their efforts may result in diseases if the woman feels really obssesed with her weight.

These eating disorders are seen in 2 types :

1.Anorexia Nevrosa

2.Bulimia Nevrosa

Anorexia is a serious pyschological disease Anorexic woman don’t like their bodies and they keep trying to lose their weight. In order to do that, thry eat very little or they don’t eat at all. However, bulimia may be the next step to anorexia for really obssesed woman. Bulimic woman eat a lot and throw up what they have eaten afterwards.

We are going to look closely into Bulimia.
Bulimia is mostly seen young, upper-class white women. However other people such as black woman, older woman and man can also bacome bulimic.
Bulimia is more then just a diet problem. The reason could be stres, anger or sadness but the sim is stil to be thinner. Some factors that may play a part as the reason for bulimia are culture, another bulimic person in the family, life changes or job, personality traits such as having low self-esteem or gene sor hormones
A person with bulimia can not be recognized by someone’s appearance. Therefore, the signs to look fort o understand if someone is bulimic or not are these ;

*Using diet pills

*Always going to the bethroom after eating

*Exercising a lot

*Feeling down

Bulimic people can get better with the help of doctors. There are different types of therapy for different people. Individual therapy, family therapy or anti-depression medicine can help.

World’s issues : Environment and Globalization

Endagered Species

Endangered species are animals or plants which are at risk of becoming extinct. Extict species are no more seen on Earth again.Experts estimate that 27,000 species become extinct each year, or about 3 species in an hour. Scientists have calculated that 124 types of amphibians, 1,108 types of birds, 734 types of fish, 1,096 types of mammals, and 253 types of reptiles have become endangered.
Hunting, trading , chemicals and pollution are causing these animals to become
endangered. By dirtying the environment, we don’t only hurt ourselves unfortunetly we
also kill a lot of other living things. An organization called WWF (World Wild Life) works on protecting endangered species.
Some Endangered Species : Atlantic salmon, rhinos, marine turtles, red panda, snow leopards, arabian oryx (a type of antelope).

Globalization or Mcdonals’ation

It is obvious that we are moving towards becoming a more global world.
Cultural glabalization is defined as the common culture of different nations, instead of individual national cultures of each nation. One term to explain cultural globalization in a sattirical way is “MC DONALD’SATION”. This term isn’t limited to the restaurant culture as the name suggests. It is more than that. Mc Donald’sation is a concept that also affects other aspects of culture such as education, business, travel, health, politics and family.
For example, the TV series Dallas is viewed in four corners of the world. In the same way, the same type of trousers like Levi’s is worn by the people of many different nations. The same type of cafes like Starbucks is visited everyday by millions of people of different nationalities.

Sports

Turkey’s young ice skating star

Tugba Karademir is the first Turkish ice skater who competed at the Olympic Winter Games.
She started skating at the age of 5. She proved to be a talented skater as a child her first international competition was in the Netherlands. She was 8 years old at the time and won a gold medal at this competition. She won the gold medal in the Balkan Games when she was 10 in 1995.
The conditions in Turkey weren’t ideal for a young figure skater to succeed at an international level because Turkey had only one ice rink, and no professional skating coaches so she moved with her
parents to Canada when she was 12 years old for better practicing conditions. She began training with Robert Tebby at the Mariposa School of Skating, making the Canadian Junior National team in the
2000-2001 season before deciding to return to representing Turkey. But one year later she got injured at her ankle and she had to stay off the ice for a year. She got back on the ice in 2000. Tugba said, "I want to become a world champion’’.
T.Karademir enjoys reading, listening to music, and watching comedy movies with friends. Now she’s 21- years-old, she trains for about 10 hours per week on ice and 5 off ice and she’s studying in York University in Biotechnology in Toronto.
